Kukeri Ritual
Kukeri is a traditional ritual performed to scare and keep the evil spirits away.
It is popular for its specific costumes rich in colors, textiles and attributes, and for the special sounds coming from numerous bells hanged onto the belts.
Surely, the costumes include bells, but also decorated masks of animals, frequently double-faced which sometimes makes them really scary. However, that is what they were intended for, right?
Having a good reason behind - to provide a good harvest, health, and happiness for all the people throughout the whole year.
The Kukeri walk and dance, parading around the village, then usually gather at the village square to dance wildly and amuse the people.
Similar to Rio De Janeiro Festival, people put a lot of passion to create and design thousands of various models of bells, costumes, masks and attributes.
